Kristen, this is another excellent piece and I always find your reflections on communication insightful. The part that resonated most with me was Jacqueline’s reminder that there are “no stupid questions.” That principle immediately grounded the discussion in something I have seen many times in teaching and clinical practice, where so much trust can be lost if a questioner feels dismissed.

I can also see that you may have opened the piece as you did to engage readers who might otherwise tune out, which makes sense as a strategy. For me, though, it was the “no stupid questions” framing that brought the whole discussion into focus. Thank you for showing how the words we choose not only carry academic meaning but also determine whether people feel heard.
